In the film NAAM Movie directed by Anees Bazmee and produced by exorbitant Roongta Entertainment and Snigdhaa Movies Pvt. Ltd. protagonist Shekhar (played by Ajay Devgan) deals with memory loss and a messy past.

What could have been a kind of thriller end-ups being ruined by poor execution and uninspired performance.
The Premise
At the start of the story Shekhar is shot full of bullets and saved from death through the intervention of some people. His doctor is called Pooja (Bhoomika Chawla) who is later going to be his wife though she remains very much a widow with a tiny daughter Muskan (Shriya Sharma). His buried past starts crawling under his skin as one dark night creeps into one’s life and when he along with his family becomes a target of mysterious assailants. The time finally comes for unveiling and Shekhar finally makes his way to Bombay where he meets Lovely (Sameera Reddy) and finds out who he is indeed.
A Script from the Past
The script seems to have been written quite some years ago by Anees Bazmee and Humayun Mirza. The plot of this film more than 15 years ago isn’t considered very much going with the audience of today. There were no funny or romantic sequences in the movie so that they would have balanced the action. Action scenes as they are the film has gotten heavy on cliches.

Pooja’s reaction at Shekhar’s fighting was supposed to raise shock or drama but felt very random in itself. One can hardly ignore how rashly characters make decisions like when Pooja chooses to marry Shekhar just because he forgot something.
Perfomances
To be fair Shekhar isn’t bad as performed by Ajay Devgan but his youthfulness paradoxically ages the film. Pooja does a song and dance number with a shoddily scripted Lovely to mediocre effect. Their other half boomed boredom: new and unique in voice and appearance-Shyamika being shy and Beautiful Sameera Reddy was true of both Rajpal Yadav and Vijay Raaz. Both tried to infuse comedy with earnestness but failed miserably by a poor story. Little Baby Shriya Sharma however is confident in her act as with Muskan. While routine is given to supporting roles like Rahul Dev Yashpal Sharma and Sharat Saxena all others like Mahie Gill and Vidya Malavade are wasted in blink-and-miss portions.
Direction Related Technical Aspects
Anees Bazmee has not resolved the outdated concept of this film through his direction. Nearly a two-decade wait is evident with this movie’s release having not been found out-place with the most current happenings in cinema. Himesh Reshammiya and Sajid-Wajid’s music reflects such outdated compositional and lyrical styles that it sounds nondescript now.

These action scenes although available in plenty have all been below average and applied to the usual pattern. Prashant Rathor’s editing and Priten Patil’s art direction are both just utilitarian notwithstanding the good cinematography by Johny Lal and Aseem Bajaj.
Final Verdict.
NAAM Movie is very much finding it difficult to define itself in a fast-moving film industry. It is going to be quite forgettable for a very large audience because of its outdated screenplay formulaic storyline and lack of an emotional connect. Although it seemed to have made all the right moves in the action drama genre NAAM Movie ultimately proved itself as a letdown for many people.
It was released on 22 November 2024 at Maratha Mandir and other theatres but did not do well at all on the box office. Alas NAAM Movie reminds one that some stories are best left untold.
